A range of 50 – 500 is a general rule, we have various locations on the property allowing for varying sized groups. Large tents can be utilized (rental costs apply) to ensure a covered area for an especially large group celebration.
Our on-site accommodations provide 12 bedrooms (as of summer 2016) where guests can stay. In addition, we have 2 queen size air beds in the ranch house. We do require that all guests be situated in a bed.
Our vintage wood barn can accommodate 150-200 people depending on types of tables used and space left for a dj, buffet tables, and/or a dance floor inside the barn.
We also now have the stables barn available to host events and weekend activities. This unique and memorable space can accommodate up to 250 guests for inside ceremonies, cocktail hours or rehearsal dinners.
The Carriage house has three bedrooms and can sleeps upto 6 people in queen size beds. The Ranch House sleeps has 6 bedrooms with king size beds. Two deluxe queen size air beds are also available in our Ranch House. The Vineyard Cottage (coming summer 2016) will also have 3 bedrooms.
In total we will have 12 bedrooms on site as of June 2016 - it will depend how guests are paired up as to how many people can stay on site.
We are happy recommend hotel and vrbo accommodations within 10 minutes of the Greengate property.
We have partnered with The Dolphin Bay Resort in Shell Beach, (8.5 miles from ranch - 11 minutes) to offer a special rate to our wedding guests. Our Event Manager will be happy to share the corporate code with you following your reservation with us.

Absolutely! We would love you to spend the week of your wedding with us and partake of this authentic California ranch experience. Please let our Events Manager know you are interested and a special rate will be available to you as our wedding guest.
Most of our wedding couples also hold other events on site including a welcome cocktail hour, their rehearsal dinner or send off brunch* at one of the locations on the ranch as well. We ask that you please inform our us of your full weekend itinery, so that we can plan accordingly to accommodate you in the best way possible. Greengate does require that events with 50 guests or more, is coordinated by your wedding coordinator or planner. All matters of rentals, vendor logistics and parking must be arranged and facilitated by your coordinator.

These basics provide a solid start to your wedding day while cutting cost from your rental order. We do not provide linen or table top elements as these are handled through your coordinator or caterer. Our Preferred Vendor List provides local sources for all of the additions that you may need.
Greengate is subject to the San Luis Obispo County sound ordinance which requires all outdoor amplified sound to be off by 10 pm. This rule applies to the homes on property as well. We recommend that your formal wedding day come to an end at 10 pm with a small casual after party to follow at one of the homes on property.
We provide an extensive list of event equipment for you to use at our venue; however, Greengate Ranch & Vineyard does not set up for break down at the end of your wedding. Greengate owned items are for use in the event area only (Vintage Barn, Courtyard & Grand Lawn areas). Set up and tear down of any of our items is the responsibility of your coordinator and/or your caterer. The re-storage of these items is outlined in our required vendor agreements with both your coordinator and caterer. If you are using one of the other areas on property, rentals will be needed and can be arranged with one of our preferred rental companies.
One of the really beautiful things about the ranch - it is located exactly 5 minutes from the San Luis Obispo Airport, 10 minutes from the beaches (Avila, Shell & Pismo), 7 minutes to down town San Luis Obispo, and 10 minutes to the charming village of Arroyo Grande. We are also surrounded by numerous wineries right here in Edna Valley. For more ideas please see our What to See & Do section.
Pets are allowed in the guest homes for an additional pet deposit for each home that the pet is in. Please note: In the interest of your pet’s safety we do require that they be on leash at all times, directly supervised (ie. not tied up somewhere) and cleaned up after. Please keep in mind this is a working ranch with horses, other dogs and operating machinery.
We are governed under the San Luis Obispo County noise ordinance requiring the amplification of music to end at 10 pm. This includes both DJ and live music and applies to music in any of our on-site venues including all on-site rental homes.
Greengate Ranch & Vineyard requires all of our couples to hire a coordinator for their wedding weekend. Any events on property with 50 or more guests must have your coordinator involved. We are happy to provide logistical support, recommendations and assistance with any facility matters.
- Candles are allowable, but we require that they are installed in accordance with the county fire code which requires all flames to be enclosed in glass and 1 inch below the top surface of the glass container.
- Biodegradable confetti is welcome on the lawn areas of the property. All other confetti is strickly prohibited. Any labor or cost associated with clean up of decorations or accessories not authorized and approved by Greengate management, will be passed on to the named party on the agreement.
- Sparklers are strickly prohibited on the property due to the severe California drought.
- Hay bales are not allowed.
If you have any questions about any decor items, please check with us prior to your weekend - we never want to disappoint you by prohibiting your plans.
Our Preferred Vendor List is provided for you and is a good resource for you. We strongly recommend these vendors as we feel confident they will provide excellent service and care, the day of your wedding. Your caterer must be chosen from this list. We have put together a list that varies both in offerings and budget. All of our caterers are happy to share menues and budgets with you so that you can make a choice that meets your needs.
An independant coordinator/ planner for your wedding weekend is required. This ensures your wedding day runs smoothly and your desires are followed. We recommend that a full-service coordinator or planner is hired to assist you in the whole planning process. Our property is vast and there are many logistics to consider, someone familiar with the property will be able navigate your plans very well.
You are welcome to choose vendors not on our preferred vendor list, but all must be approved and have met all applicable requirements prior to your event (signed vendor agreement, insurance, ServSafe certificate & vendor orientation). We are happy to make these arrangements and coordinate all of the requirements with your vendors. We also recommend you share the requirements with your vendors prior to hiring them, ensuring that they understand the requirements of working at Greengate Ranch & Vineyard. Our vendor agreements are avalable to you to share with the vendors you are considering hiring. If you are planning to hire someone that is not on our Preferred Vendor List - please make sure they know what is required, prior to signing a contract with the. We will not be held financially responsible for vendors that have been hired that do not meet the outlined requirements.
We do respectfully maintain the right to refuse the service of any vendor not meeting our requirements. If you have any questions regarding vendors at all, please discuss this with us prior to hiring.
You may supply your own alcohol, but beer, wine and liquor must be served by a licensed bartender and/or caterer. We ask that last call occur at least 30 minutes before the scheduled end of the event for safety and liability purposes.
If you are interested in serving wine from the Edna Valley - please talk with us and we can make recommendations to many of our incredible winery neighbors, who will offer you an industry discount on any cases purchased for your wedding day.
This is a no smoking property. There is absolutely no smoking in any of the buildings on property. If you know you have guests that smoke, we will work with you on setting up a designated, outdoor smoking area. Please ask us about the designation of an approved outdoor smoking area.
The violation of this policy in any of our buildings or in a non approved designated smoking area jeapordizes the return of your security deposit following your event. It is your responsibility to inform guests of this policy.
Yes, but only in designated parking areas and they must be moved by 10 AM the follow morning after your event. Any vehicles left on site past the following day of the event will be towed at the owners expense. Please see our preferred vendor list for transportation services as well.
We do not allow any of our equipment to be set up outside overnight. We do allow set up of any items you wish in the barn, once you have access to that space. You have access to the event areas of the property upon check-in. The event area is accessable during business hours on the days outside your wedding day. All items (personal, rental, decor, tables, chairs, etc.) must be taken down the night of your event, before 11 pm and stored accordingly.
Your vendors will have access to the barn and other areas of the property from 9 am - 11 pm the day of your event, unless otherwise arranged with our Events Manager. There is no accesss to the barn or storage garage after 11 pm the night of your wedding, unless otherwise arranged with our Events Manager. This excludes access for rental companies picking up equipment post-event.
Please reference your event contract, there is a plethora of important information in your contract and your access to the event spaces is outlined on the first page. If you need to arrange for early access please ask our Events Manager and we will schedule access, based on availability.
No, we require all items be removed from the barn and/or garages by 11PM the night of the event. There are exceptions to this when there are rental companies picking up rental items on a different date than the event date. In this case, items can be stored in the event garage for rental pick-up.
We've done our best to make expenses simple for you by including basic amenities that we know you'll need, such as tables and chairs, please see the complete list of inclusions in our Wedding Offerings (PDF downloadable on this site, or by request through our contact page). We do not charge a service fee, corkage fee, clean up fee or cake cutting fee. All set up of tables and chairs are the responsibility of your coordinator and caterer (please ask to see our vendor agreements outlining vendor responsibilities at GGR&V).
A day-of liability insurance is required, naming "Greengate Ranch & Vineyard, LLC" and "Greengate Farms, SLO, LLC" as additionally insured. Often this can be obtained through your home owner's policy. Policies are also available through WedSafe.com, or through a local insurance company (ask us), generally this cost is between $150-250. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Any additonal services arranged at your request by GGR&V, such as wine tours, massages or personal chef services would incur associated costs.
Greengate Ranch & Vineyard is a private property and is not open to the public. Because we are a working vineyard and active event venue, ALL visits to the property are arranged by appointment. It is our utmost priority to protect the privacy and safety of our guests and be respectful of their time while checked into the homes on property. We also want to make sure that when you visit, a member of our event team is available to open up the spaces on the ranch, provide accurate information and assist with transporting you to the many areas on the ranch.
